Shakespeare

The remarkable thing about Shakespeare is that he really is very good, in spite of all the people who say he is very good. — Robert Graves

My Shakespeare philosophy:

  1. You will not understand it all.  Relax!  Let it wash over you and enjoy the parts you DO get!
  2. Shakespeare’s plays were meant to be performed.  While the words are fantastic, they can be heard and enjoyed during a live or filmed performance. And if you go to show or rent a DVD: see idea #1.
  3. Shakespeare’s plays have something for everyone: The dirty jokes and insults are hilarious. The commentary on human nature is spot on. The deaths are awesomely gruesome. The romantic stuff is super romantic. What’s not to enjoy?
